The Western Bulldogs have selected Cleo Buttifant with their fourth selection in the 2023 AFLW Draft.
Buttifant showed off her explosiveness and strength in the air for the GWS Giants Academy and Allies throughout the course of the season.
Touted as one of the top talls in this year’s draft pool (174cm), her aerial ability is hard to miss – reading the ball in the air exceptionally well despite coming from a touch football background.
She plays with a high-risk, high-reward mantra, and will be a valued asset for the Bulldogs’ key position stocks.
Here’s what AFL talent ambassador Kevin Sheehan had to say about Buttifant:
Showed distinct AFLW potential playing for both the GWS Giants Academy and the Allies this year. Has dazzling pace and displayed a preparedness to take the game on with her run from defence. Averaged 17 disposals in her two games for the Giants in the Coates Talent League and was one of the Allies’ most consistent players at the National Championships averaging 14 disposals and three tackles. Was named among her side’s best against Victoria Metro and Western Australia. Produced a 56cm effort in the standing vertical jump at the Draft Combine which placed her inside the top-ten nationally.
