With two days to go until the Western Bulldogs’ round one clash against Geelong, we take a look at some stats involving number two – with help from AFL Media’s Gemma Bastiani.

2 – Hampson-Hardeman Cup wins since inception of AFLW league

The Bulldogs will be looking to regain the Hampson-Hardeman Cup when they meet Melbourne in round three this season.

Named in honour of women’s footy pioneers Barb Hampson and Lisa Hardeman, the Cup is played annually between the Dogs and Dees.

Since the inception of AFLW, the Bulldogs have claimed the Cup on just two of seven occasions – most recently in 2021.

While it will certainly be a challenge against the reigning premiers this year, the Dogs will do all they can to close the Dees’ differential.

2 – Guernsey number of Clubhouse stats leader

Wearing the no.2, four-time Club Champion and three-time All Australian Ellie Blackburn led key stats for the red, white and blue in season seven.

The 28-year-old finished the season first for disposals (215), inside 50s (47), clearances (52), score involvements (30) and metres gained (4214).

Her impact does not go unnoticed, and will be on track for another strong year.

2 – Date of R1 clash vs Geelong

Saturday 2 September. The date the Bulldogs’ 2023 campaign officially kicks off.

If it’s not in your calendars already, put it in now – and the rest of the season while you’re at it.

After a narrow Elimination Final loss last year, the Dogs are hungry for more in 2023.

2 – Round of first home game

Following on from above, round two will mark the Bulldogs’ first home game of the 2023 NAB AFLW Season.

An encounter with the Hawks at Mars Stadium in Ballarat is not to be missed – with tickets on-sale now.

The Dogs just got over the line in a match simulation a few weeks ago, and with former Hawk now assistant coach Kate McCarthy in the ranks, the clash is sure to be entertaining.
