Footscray captain Lachie Sullivan is hoping his side can keep the momentum of their VFL campaign going into the final few rounds of the season.
The Bulldogs made it five straight wins with a handy 20-point triumph over Collingwood last Friday, keeping their finals ambitions well and truly alive.
“It was different – going to work in the morning and then heading out to Werribee for a home game but it worked out pretty well in the end with a big win over Collingwood. You can’t complain,” Sullivan told the State of Play podcast this week.
“It was massive. There were some nervous times when they were coming and had a lot of momentum.
“It’s been unreal – the last sort of month. We’ve been sort of chatting as a group and thought that last week against Collingwood was going to be a real test to see where we were at.
“Matching up against a good side like Collingwood – they’re in good form as well and had a great side out there on Friday.
“It was huge to get the win. It keeps us alive for finals.”
Sullivan is also enjoying some fine form himself, collecting another 31 touches, six clearances, eight tackles and two goals against the Pies.
Leading from the front with his individual efforts, the skipper was full of praise for teammates Sam Darcy (21 disposals, 11 marks, four goals) and Josh Chatfield (19 disposals, eight marks).
“I love when Sam plays VFL - I reckon he’s an absolute gun,” Sullivan said.
“It’s almost like having a cheat code with you when he’s playing like that. He just reaches and you can’t defend it. I almost feel bad for the (opposition) defenders because he’s just so tall.
“He’s got a great attitude and really good skills – he’s going to be an absolute star.
“Josh has got some of the best dukes I’ve ever seen to be honest. I just won’t tell him that – hopefully he doesn’t listen to this.
“He does have a license (to jump) – he’s got really good hands and is a really talented player. He’s one to keep an eye on because he can play forward and back.”
Footscray will travel up to NSW this week to face the Swans on Friday at Tramway Oval.
