DEFENDERS Brian Lake and Lindsay Gilbee have been named in the side set to take on Gold Coast on Saturday at Etihad Stadium but young midfielder Mitch Wallis will have to wait another week to debut after being named as an emergency.

Wallis will join Nathan Djerrkura and Liam Jones - who are the unlucky omissions from last week's side - as the Dogs' three emergencies.

Power forward Barry Hall has also been named to play despite being subbed off from last weekend's big win over the Brisbane Lions with back spasms, and then missing training this week with hamstring soreness.

Hall could also make history his weekend as he needs just four goals to become the 20th player ever to reach 700.

Should he make the milestone on Saturday, he will join the likes of Tony Lockett (1360 goals), Gordon Coventry (1299), Jason Dunstall (1254) and Doug Wade (1057) in the game's record books, becoming only the 21st player in VFL/AFL history to kick 700 goals.

Lake comes into the side after building his fitness following three off-season operations while Gilbee will play after overcoming a hamstring problem.

Coach Rodney Eade said Djerrkura and Jones were unlucky to leave the side that smashed the Lions by 78 points.

"It was difficult to make any changes but with two very good senior players to come back in and available in Gilbee and Lake, we have made two changes," Eade told westernbulldogs.com.au in his weekly selection video on Thursday.

"Brian Lake will play full-back and Lukas Markovic will be starting on the interchange bench, so it's good to see Brian return and hopefully have a good season, as he did last year."

Eade said Jordan Roughead would play at full forward to help out Hall.

He also issued a plea to Bulldogs supporters to get along to Saturday's game against the AFL's newest team after a disappointing crowd of just 22,331 witnessed the win over the Lions last Sunday.

"From a players' point of view, they really need the crowd to get there to get behind them," he said.

"Also, we've found out as well, there's 8500 members that haven't re-joined from last year.

"What we're calling it at the moment is the 'Lost Dogs'. We really need these 'Lost Dogs' to join up.

"We're looking for 35,000 members and it's so vital for the club and the players to have these members on board."

Eade also said he would look to get games into more of the club's young players over the next few weeks.
