After a successful iteration of Performance Leadership in Melbourne last year, the Western Bulldogs delivered the sell-out two-day course in Ballarat earlier this month.

In partnership with Victoria University, participants from across industries and various roles came together to enhance their personal and professional development ahead of the AFL round 10 match between the Bulldogs and Crows.

Through facilitated activities, participants explored their own styles of leadership and communication and feedback strategies, while learning the skills to influence and motivate others to work together towards common team and business goals.

The two days of academic coursework were complimented by three ‘Masterclasses’ featuring industry and senior Western Bulldogs leaders, including Easton Wood, Luke Beveridge and Kylie Watson-Wheeler.

Wood, the 2016 premiership captain, joined Committee for Ballarat CEO, Michael Poulton for a facilitated Q&A session about vulnerability in leadership, ways to support a team and be a role model.

Beveridge gave a keynote address opening up about curiosity in leadership, storytelling and bringing authenticity through being yourself, while Watson-Wheeler, Bulldogs’ President, joined former Dogs’ GM of Women’s Football and current AFL National Women and Girls Action Plan Lead, Debbie Lee, on a panel for leading women in sport.

This panel was facilitated by Juliana Addison MP, Member for Wendouree, and brought together decades of experience in a variety of leadership roles across industry and sport.

All guest speakers were extremely generous with their time and sharing of personal experiences that shaped them as leaders, and practical take aways for course participants as they continue their leadership journeys.
