The Western Bulldogs are today launching the Sons of the West men’s health program, which Will Minson says will encourage and support men in Melbourne’s west to live healthier lives.
Run in partnership with Macedon Ranges and North Western Melbourne – Medicare Local and English Premier League powerhouse Liverpool FC, the Bulldogs are taking a proactive approach in helping their local community.
“Today we will be launching the Sons of the West program which is a new initiative for the Bulldogs,” Minson said.
“We are very much the community Club and we are looking to engage with the people that live out in the western region.”
Open to all men who live or work in the western suburbs of Melbourne, Sons of the West is a 12 week program based on a similar initiative run by Liverpool FC overseas.
The program incorporates sessions on healthy eating, exercise, alcohol and drug abuse and mental health – among other activities.
“One of the things that has been identified… is that some of the health outcomes of the people out in the west aren’t as good as what they could be,” he said.
“Our program is going to be a 12 week program that is designed to get men into the game of life.”
Minson said the program does not look for quick solutions but rather looks at all-encompassing lifestyle changes that will improve long term health.
“It’s not going to be a boot camp, it’s not going to be a marathon or extremes, it’s going to be more fun than pain but the idea is it will help you drop a shirt size or two,” he said.
