If you thought you saw a familiar face outside Footscray Station this morning in a hi-vis vest selling copies of The Big Issue, you’d be right, it was Western Bulldogs CEO Ameet Bains out supporting Vendor Week.
Bains was one of over 100 business and political leaders across Australia selling copies of The Big Issue, which is a fortnightly, independent magazine by homeless, marginalised and disadvantaged people, and who this week celebrating the people at the heart of The Big Issue – the street vendors.
The magazine has been in publication since 1996, where more 6,500 people have proudly put on the trademark vest in an effort to improve their lives, through access to income, as well as equally valuable social interaction, friendships and a sense of community.
“I couldn’t be prouder to donate my time this morning to help sell a magazine that has done so much over a long period of time for our community,” Bains told westernbulldogs.com.au.
“I was lucky enough to spend the morning alongside Jeff, who is not only a passionate Bulldogs supporter, but a great advocate for the magazine and what it does for people who are working to get their lives back on track.”
