“The stadium holds its breath, it’s a goal and the Western Suburbs erupt.”

It’s a few seconds that will go down in red, white and blue folklore, Tom Boyd kicking the sealer in the 2016 Grand Final, ending a premiership drought.

Having been drafted at Pick 1 in the 2013 Draft, Boyd requested a trade to Victoria after one season.

Ryan Griffen and Pick 6 was enough to get the deal done, landing the 19-year-old on a seven-year deal during the trade period.

In Round 12 of 2015, Boyd kicked four goals and had eight marks against Brisbane, claiming the Rising Star nomination for that weekend.

His three goals in the Grand Final, alongside the famous 50m bomb, will be what Boyd is remembered for in years to come.

Challenges away from the game ultimately concluded the career of a young star but the Bulldogs faithful will never forget the key forward that led them to a flag.

Boyd announced his retirement in 2019, finishing with 50 goals from 61 games.
