Western Bulldogs midfielder Kirsty Lamb isn’t underestimating the importance of banking four points on the road.
The Dogs recorded a 19-point win over Port Adelaide in it’s first home AFLW match at Alberton Oval, in front of a sold-out crowd featuring predominately Power fans.
Lamb said she was proud to come out on top.
“We just really wanted to play our brand of football,” she said post-match.
“At times we got it on the outside, we were bold enough to kick through the middle and out on the fat side of the ground. That’s what we wanted to do.
“(Port) had a fantastic turnout – for their club it’s a proud moment.
“Our girls just rolled with the punches. We knew that coming here, (the crowd) was going to get right behind their players – and they did.
“In saying that, it was also good to take the four points from them.”
The win however was soured by a leg fracture to Brit Gutknecht – which halted play in the second quarter for close to 30 minutes.
“Obviously everyone was pretty emotional – we had a fair chunk of downtime in the middle of the game which we’ve never been through,” Lamb said.
“But credit to the girls, we all rallied around each other.
“We’ll wrap our arms around Brit – it didn’t look nice and she’s probably got a fair recovery ahead of her.
“She’s in the best hands possible at the moment.”
The Bulldogs will look to continue their winning streak when they host Fremantle at IKON Park in a Friday twilight timeslot.
