To celebrate our Retro Round this Saturday, we asked fans to select the best Bulldogs team of the last 25 years. Over the next week, we’ll reveal the fan-voted team line-by-line.

Brad Johnson

Described as one of the best forwards of the game, Brad Johnson was a dangerous and skilled player with strong overhead marking abilities. Drafted with the 11th pick in 1993, Johnson made his debut in 1994 and went on to play 364 games – a Club record - while slotting 558 goals. Blessed with speed, a strong work ethic and determination to win the ball, he earned All Australian selection on six occasions (1999, 2000, 2002, 2005, 2006 and 2007), won three Charles Sutton Medals (1999, 2002 and 2006) and was later appointed captain from 2007 to 2010. He also finished five seasons as the Club’s leading goalkicker, in 2001, 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008. The “Smiling Assassin” was also inducted into the Australian Football Hall of Fame post-playing career in 2014.

Barry Hall

After playing stints at St Kilda and Sydney, Barry Hall arrived at the Kennel via a trade ahead of the 2010 season. Despite playing just 39 games across two seasons in the red, white and blue, the 194cm powerful key forward managed 135 goals for the Bulldogs – becoming the first player in VFL/AFL history to boot 100+ goals for three clubs. He was named the Club’s leading goalkicker in both seasons, and earned All Australian selection (his fourth overall) in 2010. He was also inducted into the Australian Football Hall of Fame in 2017 after a 289-game and 746-goal career.

Tory Dickson

A mature-age draftee, Tory Dickson became a Bulldog via pick 57 in the 2011 National Draft. A medium forward, Dickson kicked a career-high 50 majors in 2015, establishing himself as a sharp-shooter with impressive accuracy in front of goal. He was an integral part of the 2016 premiership win, booting three goals on the big stage. Retiring at the end of the 2020 season, he finished his playing career with 181 goals and 61 behinds from 114 games.
