“The priority will always be the here and now, the only thing that matters in our four walls of football perspective is Friday night.”
The words of Bulldogs CEO Ameet Bains this morning ring true ahead of a clash under the Friday night lights against St Kilda, as the red, white and blue attempt to bounce back from a difficult fortnight.
Speaking to SEN Whateley early on Thursday morning, Bains covered a range of areas as the Club looks to the final six rounds as well as the future beyond 2022.
“It’s obviously been disappointing to play in a grand final last year and currently not be sitting in the 8 with six rounds to go, it’s not what we envisaged to be the situation,” Bains said.
“With a grand final last year and a list profile like ours we certainly set ourselves to have top four ambitions.”
“From a government perspective, from a planning perspective and strategic perspective you are always looking at the future years and we remain really confident in our list profile (moving forward).”
Bains explained that are football department continues to develop with a number of coaches adjusting to the style and play of the Western Bulldogs.
“Marc Webb and Matt Spangher are both doing a terrific job.” He said.
“Marc is experienced in his own right at Fremantle but there is a period of adjusting to the style, gameplan and nuances of a new club. Those two coaches plus the coaching group overall are doing a terrific job.”
Despite the challenge that awaits the Club on Friday night, Bains was coy on the game ahead and the mindset of future ambitions.
The future for us is tomorrow night and is St Kilda but there is also a strong level of confidence beyond 2022,” he said.
“We think we have a terrific playing group, and playing list in terms of what they are capable of achieving.
“They’re still very young, driven and hungry. We will make some adjustments on the off-season as well. We want to attack the last six weeks and whatever comes of it we have comfort we will be okay.”
Ahead of Friday night, the Bulldogs will celebrate Member Recognition Round and Bains encouraged fans to pack Marvel for the bumper clash.
“It's member recognition round and is an opportunity for our club to thank our loyal and passionate supporters,” he said.
“We broke our all-time membership record a few weeks ago, ticked off 50,000 for the first time ever during the week – we have been one of only three clubs to have higher attendances then the 2019 season.
“Our fans are turning up and are really passionate, we want to put a good performance in for them.”
