Bulldogs’ AFLW Head of List Management and Recruiting, Mick Sandry, shares his thoughts on our 2022 draftees.
Rylie Wilcox (Pick 21)
We did hours of work on how we thought the draft would go, and although we would have loved the thought of Rylie getting to our pick, it wasn’t something that any of our calculations said was possible - so to bring Rylie in whilst at the same time addressing one of our needs is a real bonus. She is a really smart footballer, who is hard to catch and makes great decisions. Her ability to find space and stretch the ground is well suited to AFLW and we think she adds a new dynamic to our list.
Keely Coyne (Pick 29)
Like Rylie, Keely performed exceptionally well on a wing for Vic Metro but also has the ability to excel inside and up forward. She is composed under pressure, is a good decision maker and has excellent delivery of the football.
Heidi Woodley (Pick 37)
Heidi has had an interrupted period of football through injury, but her natural ability and hard-working attitude shines through. She is a versatile mid-forward who we think has so much upside to her game, and is a competitor with exciting turn of pace and a huge future.
Brooke Vernon (Pick 68)
Brooke comes to us after having spent the last few seasons with Carlton. We were really keen on Brooke in her draft year and feel she has a lot to offer. She has the ability to come in and impact straight away which we feel adds real balance to the list. Her long kick and competitive nature will be great assets to us.
Summary
Overall we are really excited with the four players we’ve acquired. We’ve brought in some run and speed as well as bolstering key areas of the list, which is a great result.
