Recently re-signed ruck Tim English says he is excited to commit to the Kennel for a further two seasons.
The 24-year-old put pen to paper on a contract extension this week, keeping him in the red, white and blue until at least the end of the 2024 season.
“I’m very excited – obviously the club has shown a lot of faith in me over the past few seasons,” English told westernbulldogs.com.au.
“We were able to make a Grand Final last year, and I was thrilled to be part of that so hopefully we can find a little bit more success in the near future.
“I’ve developed a really strong relationship with the players here too – we get along really well off-field which is a big factor, and I’m enjoying living in Melbourne as well.
“For me now, I’ve got a really good opportunity with a role that suits my game here at the Bulldogs, so I think it’s a good fit at the moment.”
English is averaging 22 disposals, six clearances and 24 hit-outs from his eight outings, and is on track to becoming one of the competition’s leading rucks by season’s end.
While he was quick to defer to a team-first perspective when asked about any individual goals, he didn’t shy away from his desires to achieve the ultimate success.
“Team goals stand out to me the most - I want to win a premiership and I want to be part of that success. I think this group has the ability to do that,” English said.
“We’ve shown that we’ve been able to do that at different stages throughout the year – it’s just about finding that consistency.”
He thanked his family, friends and partner Rudi, a West Coast Fever netballer, for their support too.
“I’ve been able to (manage any homesickness) over the past six years, and obviously my partner Rudi has been really supportive from WA,” he said.
“We’ve both got to follow our own career paths – hopefully we can be in the same state as each other one day, but for the time being we’re both really supportive of each other.”
