Three Bulldogs are amongst a field of football’s elite in line to be named as the AFL’s Most Valuable Player at the AFL Players’ Association MVP Awards tonight at Crown Palladium.

Bulldogs captain Matthew Boyd along with Robert Murphy and Ryan Griffen all received nominations for this peer voted award that was last year won by Collingwood’s Dane Swan.

The player voted as the AFL’s Most Valuable Player will be presented with the Leigh Matthews Trophy.

AFL Players? Association President Luke Power said players are always striving for the recognition of their peers, and the MVP Awards are the ultimate expression of the respect players have for each other.

“The regard of other players, whether they are on your team or not, has huge value to us. This is why winning an AFL Players? MVP is considered so special.”

Other Bulldogs nominated for awards at tonight’s ceremony are Tom Liberatore (Best First Year Player Award) and Daniel Cross (Most Courageous Player Award). Boyd is also a nominee in the Best Captain Award.

Awards to be decided tonight are:
  • The Leigh Matthews Trophy AFL Players’ MVP
  • The Robert Rose Most Courageous Player Award
  • The Best Captain Award
  • The Best First Year Player Award
  • Education and Training Excellence Award
The AFL Players’ MVP Awards will be broadcast exclusively on Fox Sports 1 at 9:30pm.
