Costing the Dogs only a late third round selection at pick 43, Lindsay Gilbee arrived at Whitten Oval in 1999.

In a career that spanned 13 seasons in the red, white and blue, it was Gilbee’s precise skills that ranked him amongst the best disposers of ball by foot in the modern era.

It earned the defender All-Australian selection in 2006 – that season he averaged 21 disposals, five marks and kicked nine goals.

He was one of the Bulldogs’ impressive drat haul of 1999, which also included Bob Murphy, Daniel Giansiracusa, Mitch Hahn and Ryan Hargrave.

Gilbee announced his retirement at the 2012 Charles Sutton Medal, after 206 games.
