Williamstown’s three game winning streak came to an end over the weekend, going down to Sandringham by 15 points at Trevor Barker Beach Oval.

In a match that wasn’t decided until the final ten minutes, Sandringham led at every change to eventually record a 14.11 (95) to 12.8 (80) victory.

The first half went almost goal for goal, with both teams able to hit the scoreboard regularly and accurately.

But with the odd shower of rain in the second half coupled with some tiring legs, the game became a much more contested affair around the ground with many stoppages.

The Seagulls managed to cut the deficit from 20 points at three-quarter time to eight points midway through the final term, but that would be as close as they would get.

Defenders Mark Austin and Cameron Lockwood shone for Williamstown, with Lockwood keeping the dangerous Ahmed Saad to just one goal for the match.

The experienced midfield duo of Ben Jolley and Daniel Cross found plenty of the ball and were prevalent around the stoppages, while Nick Sing provided plenty of drive from the half-back line.

Up forward it was Patrick Veszpremi doing the most scoring damage, booting three goals, while ruckman Tom Campbell managed to boot two goals of his own while resting forward.

This Saturday the Seagulls travel down Williamstown Road to face Port Melbourne in what is set to be an all-important rivalry clash, with Williamstown looking to extract some revenge on the Boroughs after their 47-point defeat to them earlier in the season.

Development League

Williamstown’s Development League side recorded a 102-point win over Sandringham in a great team performance on Saturday.

The 22.17 (149) to 7.5 (47) win puts the Seagulls two premiership points off top spot on the development league ladder, with just five rounds to play in the home and away season.

Williamstown got off to a great start and never looked back, booting 13 first half goals before consolidating and extending the margin in the second half.

Ruckman Brandon Symes was best on ground for the Seagulls, outplaying his opponent in the ruck and getting forward to kick three goals, while Dylan Conway, Fletcher Roberts and Simon Deery all provided headaches up forward for their opponents, booting seven goals between them.

The Development side also face Port Melbourne this Saturday and will look to recreate a similar result earlier in the season, where they defeated the Borough by 38 points.
