Marcus Bontempelli has rocketed into the top six of the AFCA Champion Player of the Year Award, after recording his fourth ten-vote performance for the season in Saturday night’s win over Richmond.
Bontempelli was unanimously named best on ground by senior coaches Luke Beveridge and Damien Hardwick after his 25 disposal, two goal nine clearance and eight tackle performance helped lift the Bulldogs to victory.
The 20-year-old midfielder has now amassed 59 votes for the season, with only Rory Sloane, Patrick Dangerfield, Dustin Martin, Joel Selwood and Luke Shuey sitting above him.
In his third year of senior football, Bontempelli has posted ‘perfect’ 10 vote performances in the Bulldogs’ wins over Melbourne, Adelaide, Port Adelaide and now Richmond.
He has also polled votes in a further three matches.
Dustin Martin was one of two Tigers to poll votes in the match, earning eight votes for his 38-disposal performance.
Easton Wood, Lachie Hunter, Mattehw Boyd and Jack Macrae all polled votes for the Bulldogs.
