Fans in the stands at VU Whitten Oval; it certainly was a sight for sore eyes.
It has been two long years since the Bulldogs faithful have had the opportunity to witness a men’s training session, and whether it was a 50-year member or young child watching a hero, everyone enjoyed the experience.
The cheer from the 2,000 fans as the group ran into the ground for the open training was a special moment and clearly the players enjoyed the return.
Despite small COVID restrictions, fans got pretty close to the players waiving and chatting from a distance. The group handed out small signed footballs at the conclusion of training, in a Christmas-come-early moment for youngsters.
Senior coach Luke Beveridge and captain Marcus Bontempelli both spoke directly to the crowd in a live Q&A, while many players posed for photos.
The training highlight; our tall forwards lifting to the skies on the marking bag over assistant coach Matt Spangher. Jamarra Ugle-Hagan and Aaron Naughton took hangers as loud cheers rang around the training base.
The overriding message from the Club was one of gratitude for our loyal fan base. Beveridge spoke of the great pride the players have representing the jumper and the excitement as we look towards another campaign.
“Thank you very much for coming,” Beveridge opened with.
“I see a lot of kids today and hopefully you are with us for a long time. We obviously have the best colours in the land.”
“The boys are looking forward to entertaining and we are really grateful for everyone being here.”
“Hopefully there is more good times ahead for you all.”
As it stands, we are only 18 days away from the first bounce against Melbourne at the MCG.
Yes, it will be great to see the Bulldogs back in full flight but something more exciting, the red, white and blue army out in full force.
If today is any indication, the Bulldogs will feel the love from the very first moment of season 2022.
