Western Bulldogs young guns Aaron Naughton and Bailey Smith have been named in the AFLPA’s 22under22 team for season 2021.
Named at half-forward, it is a third call-up for Naughton (2019, 2020), and a second nod for Smith (2019), named on the wing.
The Bulldogs duo were the two most popular players to be voted in by fans, with Smith selected in 97% of teams, and Naughton chosen in 91%.
Smith did not miss a match this season, averaging 23.5 disposals, 3.1 clearances and 3.5 inside 50s.
The 20-year-old was one of four Bulldogs to feature in every game, playing a combination of both inside and outside.
Naughton kicked 40 goals from 22 matches, finishing the home and away season as the club’s leading contested marker (51), while taking the most marks inside 50 (73).
The 21-year-old is one of two players to have made the final 22 for a third straight year.
The fan-voted concept was introduced in 2013 to reward young players who make an impact on their club and the wider competition.
For a player to eligible, they must have played a minimum of 12 games throughout the 2021 season.
