Western Bulldogs midfielder Adam Treloar says his performance in his return to the action against Essendon will hold him in good stead.

Sunday’s loss was Treloar’s first game back in close to three months, after suffering an ankle syndesmosis injury against St Kilda in round 10.

Finishing the day with 22 disposals, seven marks and a goal, he said he felt physically great.

“I’ve said before that I physically feel the best I’ve felt, and I do - I feel physically great and in really good condition,” Treloar told westernbulldogs.com.au post-match.

“It’s nice to get a run under my legs, and I think that’ll put me in good stead going forward – that and building more cohesion with the midfield group and just the side in general.

“I never take for granted being able to play footy and doing what I love – I’ve been through some challenges myself, and more physically this year it’s been a challenge for me with the injury that I’ve had, but I’ve bounced back and been able to get back (in the team), and feel great.

Senior coach Luke Beveridge said despite the somewhat quieter performance from his star midfielder, he is confident Treloar will get back to the impact he had pre-injury in no time.

“He had some okay moments and that’s the thing - we’re playing for now, and we want to win games right here and right now,” Beveridge told media over Zoom.

“When players have been out for a long time, and a player of his ilk, the promise of his contribution when you consider what he’s already been able to do for us, as a club there was no hesitation in playing him.

“He’s physically really ready, so he blew the cobwebs out a little bit, and hopefully incrementally his game keeps improving.”
