Season in short
After an extended stint in the VFL to open his 2013 campaign, Grant forced his way back in to the Bulldogs’ senior line up in Round 16. His inclusion immediately paid dividends for the team. Playing all eight remaining games, the 24-year-oldattacked the ball fearlessly and was rewarded, kicking 13 goals and averaging six marks per game. A team-lifting performance against Carlton in Round 20 yielded 24 disposals and four goals.
What they said:
“He's quite exhilarating to watch. We're just really happy for Granty. The number one thing, the way he's playing is a by-product of him growing up and accepting that when he's out on the field in a Western Bulldogs' jumper, you play a certain way. It's just terrific to see how hard he's attacking the ball and believing in himself."
- Western Bulldogs Senior Coach Brendan McCartney (Round 20, 2013)
The stat that mattered
On average, Grant over four scoreboard influences (goals, behind or goal assist) in each game, combining his goals (1.6 per match), behinds (1.0) and score assists (1.5) - more than Daniel Giansiracusa (4.0) and Tom Campbell (3.7).
Pre-season focus:
Consistency will continue to be a key focus for the 24-year-old, as he looks to carry his strong form through to the new season. His emergence in the Bulldogs' forward line saw him breathe new life into his AFL career and begin to build on confidence and settle in his role. Continuing to build strength in his frame is also likely to factor into his pre-season regime, as he continues to develop his body for the week-in, week-out rigours of senior football.
In the news:
WESTERN BULLDOGS coach Brendan McCartney admits to having an 'interesting' 18 months with Jarrad Grant, but believes the forward is now on the right track.
Defence key to Grant’s revival
A three goal haul may stand out on the statistician’s sheet, but Jarrad Grant’s breakout performance against West Coast Eagles revolves around more than just his impact on the score line.
Jarrad Grant has a knack for making the difficult look easy, but the 24-year-old made the most of his senior opportunity in round 16 by focusing on the basics.
