Star midfielder Adam Treloar will make his return after almost three months on the sidelines when the Western Bulldogs host Essendon at Marvel Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The 28-year-old is one of three inclusions for the Bulldogs, alongside experienced defender Taylor Duryea and young gun Ed Richards.

Duryea (managed) and Richards (concussion) both return after missing last week’s win against the Adelaide Crows.

Treloar will play his first match since round 10, when he suffered an ankle syndesmosis injury against St Kilda.

Versatile forward Mitch Hannan will miss with a shoulder injury, while young gun Cody Weightman has been managed after 11 consecutive games. Roarke Smith and last week’s unused medical sub, Pat Lipinski, also make way.

Lipinski and Lewis Young, who had initially been named on the extended bench on Thursday night, have been replaced in the squad of 26 players.

Buku Khamis and Jordon Sweet have been added to the four emergencies in their place, alongside Roarke Smith and Lachie McNeil. One will be confirmed as the medical sub an hour before the first bounce on Sunday.

The match will also mark two Bulldog player milestones.

Key forward Josh Bruce will play his 150th AFL match and key defender Zaine Cordy will feature in his 100th AFL match.

Bruce has not missed a game in 2021, with his 36 games as a Bulldog accompanied by 99 at St Kilda and 14 with the GWS Giants.

Cordy, a member of the 2016 AFL premiership side, was a father-son selection in the 2014 NAB AFL Draft. He will become the fourth father-son Bulldog currently on the list to reach the 100-game milestone – alongside Tom Liberatore, Lachie Hunter and Mitch Wallis.
