Western Bulldogs senior coach Luke Beveridge has confirmed star midfielder Josh Dunkley will return against Adelaide at Mars Stadium this weekend.
Dunkley was forced into mandatory 14-day home quarantine after visiting a Tier 1 COVID-19 exposure site, returning to the club this morning in preparation for Saturday’s clash.
The Bulldogs will be forced into at least two changes, having lost Alex Keath to a hamstring injury and Ed Richards to concussion in last week’s win over Melbourne.
“Dunks will definitely be coming into the team. There’s one other spot there on paper, so we’ve just got to work out this afternoon whether we make any more changes,” Beveridge told media over Zoom.
“The critical thing that I’ve always found – and our people do an amazing job – is having a water-tight program, that prepares your whole list for whatever is in front of you.
“At the start of the year, I think we had a really good blend, but we love the composition of our team and what we’re doing.”
Easton Wood will be considered, after emerging unscathed in a scratch match returning from his ankle injury, while Laith Vandermeer will return via the VFL after playing limited scratch match minutes.
Beveridge also indicated star midfielder Adam Treloar was nearing availability in the run home.
“If you remember back, I was preparing everyone for probably the worst case scenario, in that (Adam’s recovery) might’ve taken a lot longer than we would’ve thought,” Beveridge said.
“He’ll be in consideration…definitely not this week, but possibly even next week. That’s how quickly he’s come on.
“We’ve just got to be careful we don’t compromise the team as far as sharing the load goes but he’ll be available pretty quickly – I’d say if it’s not next week, it would almost definitely be the week after.”
The Bulldogs will confirm their team of 22 plus four emergencies tonight at 6.20pm.
