Season Overview:
2012 saw the continued development of Zephaniah Skinner with him adding seven senior games to his career tally. Providing excitement in the forward line, Skinner contributed five goals and four goal assists despite being named as a substitute in three of his games. The 23 year old spent much of his time in the VFL adding a more contested element to his game. His tackling and willingness to chase noticeably improved as the year wore on and he continued to gain form when given a run in the senior squad.

By the Numbers:
A number of defensive aspects of Skinner’s game improved this season including averaging more than three tackles in the VFL per game (one tackle per game in the AFL), while in all bar one game in the seniors he had more contested possessions than uncontested. He also had a career high six tackles in the VFL against North Ballarat. A three goal haul for Williamstown against Sandringham was also a highlight.

Season Highlight:
Skinner put in a solid performance in round 20 against Richmond with 12 disposals, six contested possessions and three marks. He also kicked two goals for the day and assisted around the stoppages with four hitouts and one clearance. In the game he played 75% game time - the most he has ever played in one game.

Pre-Season Focus:
With Coach Brendan McCartney placing a high importance on contested ball, it is likely Skinner will prioritise improving this skills set over the pre-season. Continuing to add muscle to his frame will also help him compete and defend in the seniors next year.
