Fred Ulbrick ran out for Footscray three times in the Bulldogs' inaugural VFL season in 1925.
Amazingly, the Dogs have had to wait almost a century to see another male player whose surname begins with U run out in the red, white and blue.
Jamarra Ugle-Hagan will become that player in Sunday's match against Sydney at Marvel Stadium.
While Ugle-Hagan will become just the second male 'U' Bulldog, he will be the third overall, with Aisling Utri part of the Bulldogs' AFLW line-up in 2018 and 2019.
Ugle-Hagan will also be just the fourth Western Bulldog to sport a hyphenated surname. He follows Danny Del-Re, who played 62 games for Footscray from 1990 to 1994, Simon Minton-Connell who came to the Bulldogs in 1997 after previous stints with Carlton, Sydney and Hawthorn, and Nell Morris-Dalton, who debuted for the Bulldogs' AFLW side in 2020 and played a further five matches this year.
As well as achieving those quirky milestones for the Bulldogs, Jamarra Ugle-Hagan will join a select group of players in VFL/AFL history. Both his first name and his surname will be unique among the almost 13,000 footballers to play senior league football.
Other Bulldogs in that group include Seddon Bagley, Bonnie Izzard, Eon Densworth, Tad, Joniec, Zeno Tzatzaris, José Romero and Farren Ray, along with current players Lin Jong, Laitham Vandermeer and Buku Khamis.
