Long-standing executive Nick Truelson will depart the Western Bulldogs after accepting a role as Chief Executive Officer of NBL club Melbourne United.
Truelson has spent more than a decade at the Bulldogs as its Chief Commercial Officer, playing a key role in building the Club’s off-field financial strength through sponsorship acquisitions and service, corporate hospitality, coterie memberships and merchandise sales.
During his time at the Club, Truelson has helped nurture successful long-term partnerships with recognised organisations like Victoria University, Mission Foods and ASICS, while playing a key role in supporting the Club’s AFLW program, its commitment to Ballarat and the Western Bulldogs Community Foundation.
Prior to his time at the Bulldogs, Truelson worked with Essendon Football Club as its Fan Development Manager, and as National Sales Manager at Cadbury Schweppes.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for Nick to progress his career and fulfill his ambitions of taking charge of a professional sporting team. We congratulate and thank him for his enormous contribution to the Club,” said Bulldogs’ CEO Ameet Bains.
“Nick has seen the absolute highs and lows of the Club’s journey during his time, but he has never wavered in his commitment to the red, white and blue.
“Under his stewardship, the Club’s commercial revenue has grown dramatically with an array of international brands partnering with the Club across his tenure.
“Perhaps even more telling has been the length of partnership we have enjoyed with many of these organisations, a reflection of Nick’s exceptional relationship building skills and relentless commitment to service.”
Truelson said he was grateful for the opportunity he has been given at the Bulldogs for a long period of time.
“After 10 unforgettable years, my time at the Western Bulldogs will be coming to an end as I embark on this exciting new challenge and opportunity,” he said.
“I have had one of the best sporting administration rides in Australia during my time at the Western Bulldogs, and I can’t thank the Club enough for everything they have given me. I look forward to cheering on the four red, white and blue teams as a fan in the stands now with my family.
“It is a super exciting time for the Club on and off field. We are all custodians of the Club’s brand during a moment in time, and you hope that when you do leave, you leave the organisation in a better place that when you started. I can finish my journey with the club knowing that this is true.
“To all the staff, board, coaches, players, corporate partners, members and fans, thanks for everything.”
