Western Bulldogs senior coach Luke Beveridge says his side knows it still has room to improve, despite a 62-point win against the Gold Coast Suns on Saturday.

The Bulldogs had opened up a significant lead at half-time, after kicking the first 11 goals of the game.

But the Suns pinched the last goal before the main break – and then took wrestled control of the game away from the Bulldogs in the third term.

Beveridge acknowledged the Bulldogs’ brilliant start to the year but believes they still have areas to fine tune, particularly on the back of the Suns’ third quarter revival.

“It’s a good result and obviously a terrific start to the year,” he said.

“Every team we’ve played… whether it’s been the full game or different stages, we’ve been challenged.

“All we can do is be a better version of ourselves and what we were the previous week.

“I felt at times looking out on the ground we looked like we weren’t running on top of the ground, we were at a speed we hadn’t been in previous weeks and I was a bit concerned.

“It’s always healthy to understand that any team can have your measure for different periods, you just don’t want them to have it for the whole game obviously.”

The Bulldogs are undefeated after their opening five games, setting up a tantalising clash with the GWS Giants next Friday night in Canberra.

It’s a rivalry that has developed quickly between the two clubs.

The Giants have won their past two games, including a nail-biting win against the previously undefeated Sydney Swans.

“There is history, there’s no doubt,” Beveridge said.

“It’s healthy for the competition, a bit of theatre, the pantomime withing the bigger movie absolutely.

“(Their win) will fuel their game, because Sydney have been tremendous up until this point.

“We look forward to it.”
