Western Bulldogs defender Easton Wood says there’s only one word fitting enough to describe his captain and superstar teammate, Marcus Bontempelli.
With Bontempelli set to reach his 150-game milestone against the Gold Coast Suns this weekend, Wood said it’s a privilege being able to play alongside someone of his calibre.
“He’s really special, and I don’t use that word lightly,” Wood told media on Tuesday morning.
“You couldn’t ask for a better captain or a better person to run out behind.
“To have your leader be someone (like Marcus) – he’s got all the talent in the world, but he works harder than anyone else in the football club, so he sets the standard.
“When he is continually doing that off the field, but then you see what he does on the field with the ball and around the ball helping us in defence, he’s inspirational.”
Wood also had high praise for his skipper following the Bulldogs’ round four win over Brisbane last Saturday afternoon.
“There was an amazing part of the game at the end of the third quarter on the weekend, where we had a defensive breakdown – which I was a part of – and Marcus slid about 100m to put a spoil on and save us,” Wood said.
“We’re incredibly lucky to be able to run out behind him and call him a teammate.”
