Season in short:
A healthy and fit Easton Wood reaped rewards in 2015, undoubtedly the defender’s best season.
He was one fourth of a formidable half-back quartet with Bob Murphy, Matthew Boyd and Jason Johannisen, and became the competition’s intercept marking king.
The 26-year-old averaged 17 disposals and seven marks, and was the architect in driving attacking football from the Dogs’ defensive line all season.
Wood was rewarded for his year with selection on the half-back line in the All-Australian side.
His most notable performance came in round 13 with a career-high 13 marks and 22 touches.
Stat that mattered:
Wood finished the year ranked 12th for total marks and contested marks, the highlight of his 2015 season.
What they said:
“It’s certainly been a very positive year for me. With a new coach coming in and having my body hold up, I was able to grow in confidence and explore elements of my game that I probably didn’t know I was capable of.” – Easton Wood, September 2015
“He probably started to get some continuity in his body last year and some real confidence but this year he’s just taken it to another level. I haven’t seen really a year by a defender, and I played with some good defenders, I don’t think I’ve seen a more outstanding year… As a medium-sized defender, the way he throws his body back into the play, his courageous efforts to intercept mark and aid our Bulldog attack has just been sensational… He’s just had a brilliant year and I’m so rapt for him.” – Rohan Smith (Western Bulldogs Assistant Coach), September 2015
