Gun midfielder Jack Macrae has recorded a career-best equal fifth finish in the 2020 Brownlow Medal count.

Polling 15 votes on the night, Macrae was twice judged best afield, in round three against GWS and round eight against Gold Coast.

He shared fifth place with Patrick Dangerfield (Geelong), Dustin Martin (Richmond) and Luke Parker (Sydney).

Skipper Marcus Bontempelli earned maximum votes in round 17 to finish with 10 votes, while Bailey Smith (seven votes), Lachie Hunter (six votes), Josh Dunkley and Tim English (four votes each) rounded out the Bulldogs’ top five.

Brisbane’s Lachie Neale won the Brownlow Medal with 31 votes, ahead of Port Adelaide's Travis Boak (21 votes), and St Kilda’s Jack Steele and Melbourne’s Christian Petracca in equal third (20 votes).
