Key forward Aaron Naughton has a big decision to consider ahead of Saturday’s final against St Kilda.
To free, or not to free… his mullet.
Naughton’s new headwear has drawn plenty of media attention this week, however the helmet he’s donned does cover up the glorious mullet that has become a trademark look.
Teammate Jason Johannisen says he’s weighing up some alterations and consulting Caleb Daniel for advice.
“(Aaron) was pretty keen to cut the back of the helmet off so he can get his mullet flopping out the back,” Johannisen told SEN 1116.
“He’s been spending a lot of time with Caleb trying to get some tips. He’s going to have to share his endorsement deal I reckon.”
Fellow forward Josh Bruce believes the helmet improves Naughton’s image.
“I tried his helmet on just before actually, it looks good,” Bruce said.
“It hides part of his mullet, so everyone will be happy which is good.”
Johannisen acknowledged that the Bulldogs had needed to explore multiple options for a helmet that would cover Naughton’s head and hair.
“I think he’s gone with the slightly larger helmet just to fit all the hair in,” Johannisen said.
“It’s probably a rugby brand and rugby players usually have big melons, so they were able to find the right size for him.”
