Mitch Wallis has heaped praise on ball magnet Jack Macrae, after his performance in Saturday night’s loss to the Brisbane Lions.
On a night where the Western Bulldogs were largely beaten around the ball, Macrae had a significant impact.
The 26-year-old racked up 40 disposals – the most of any player in a game in 2020.
He also led the Bulldogs for uncontested possessions (27), metres gained (480), score involvements (seven), inside-50s (seven) and intercepts (five).
“He can find the pill, Jacko. He’s a superstar,” Wallis said.
“I think he’s underrated because he doesn’t get his head on camera as much.
“He’s a really hard worker and he’s an elite footballer. I think he’s one of the top midfielders in the competition.
“To get those numbers in a 100-minute game is quite outstanding.
“If a few people can take a leaf out of his book and the way he works and reads the play, we’ll be a better team for it.”
It’s been a trying three weeks for the Bulldogs, against three of the competition’s best teams in Richmond, Port Adelaide and the Lions.
But Macrae – who marked his 150-game milestone against the Tigers – has been at his brilliant best, averaging almost 35 disposals per game during that period.
