The Western Bulldogs today confirmed that Rodney Eade has informed the Club that he will not coach out the remaining games of the 2011 season.
The Club understands and accepts his decision.
Paul Williams, current Western Bulldogs Senior Assistant Coach, has been appointed as caretaker coach.
Williams played 306 games for Collingwood and Sydney - his playing career included two best and fairest awards and an All-Australian selection in 2003.
A 2005 Swans premiership player, he announced his retirement in 2006 and moved quickly to pursue a career in coaching.
In 2007, Williams joined the Melbourne Football Club as a midfield coach and after two seasons joined the Bulldogs as the forward line coach.
Last season he was elevated to Bulldogs’ Senior Assistant Coach.
Williams has over 20 years of experience in the AFL and has a solid reputation as a great communicator and developer of young talent.
“I am pleased to have the opportunity to guide the Club through the remainder of the 2011 Season,” Williams said today.
“While the last couple of days have been difficult - this is a great Club with a fantastic future.
“I am looking forward to working with the players, coaches and staff as we move into this new and exciting phase”.
Identifying and securing our next coach is an absolute priority and will be done as soon as possible recognising the importance of the role.
The Club will have further to say on the appointment process shortly.
The Club would like to reiterate our thanks to Rodney for his contribution to the Bulldogs and wish him well in his future endeavours.
