Richmond’s Jack Riewoldt was on song in round 8 last year against the Western Bulldogs, slotting through four goals - but a repeat performance is unlikely if All Australian defender Brian Lake has his say.

Last time they met Lake was restricted to the sidelines but on Sunday will be roaming the MCG with a firm eye on nullifying the 2010 Coleman Medallist.

Lake said Richmond’s strong midfield stocks will need to be kept in check for the Bulldogs to be competitive, while the Tigers delivery inside 50 is one of the most damaging parts to their game.

“Richmond are led by a great midfield so we will have to be mindful of that,” Lake said.

“If given space, they can really hurt you going into their forward 50.”

Leading the Bulldogs defensive stocks alongside veteran Robert Murphy, Lake said this weekend will be another great opportunity for the Dogs young brigade to play on the MCG.

With both utility Lin Jong and defender Fletcher Roberts both named in the extended squad, Sunday’s game could also see a debutant take to the field which Lake said always makes the team lift.

“It provides another great test for our team to put four quarters together but also for our young guys on the wide expanses of the MCG,” he said.

“We will probably have another debutant which usually gives the boys a bit of a lift - we’re definitely up for the challenge.”

The Western Bulldogs will go head-to-head with Richmond on Sunday at 3:15pm at the MCG, for more information click here.
