RYAN Griffen joined in the light training run, but big man Will Minson did little as the Western Bulldogs stretched their legs at Whitten Oval on Tuesday morning.

On a beautiful day, and with a grand final-type feel engulfing the Dogs’ home base, all eyes were on Griffen – who suffered a corked cal in Friday night’s semi-final win over the Brisbane Lions.

The couple of hundred fans and assembled media in attendance were eager to see whether the Dogs’ star playmaker moved freely.

And while he is likely to be tested with a more rigourous session later in the week, Griffen did enough to suggest he will take his place in Friday night’s preliminary final with St Kilda.

Minson was indoors for much of the session before later taking to the oval with his teammates, however he only took part in some stationary handball drills and never broke into a gallop.

Back-up ruckman Wade Skipper – who hasn’t played an AFL match in 2009 – was among the 28-man squad that trained on Tuesday morning despite Williamstown’s VFL season ending on Saturday.

In fact all those in contention for a recall – including Tom Williams, Josh Hill, Andrejs Everitt and Dylan Addison – joined in training.

With the barbecue sizzling and the Bulldogs running onto Whitten Oval with their team song playing, fans lapped up seeing their heroes train ahead of the showdown with the Saints.

Training lasted about an hour, with players enjoying a fairly low-intensity session which finished with goalkicking practice.
