LUKE Dahlhaus says he's confident the Western Bulldogs will bounce back quickly from their 92-point loss to the Sydney Swans on Sunday.

Speaking after the announcement of a contract extension that will keep him at the Whitten Oval until the end of 2015, the 19-year-old said the weekend's performance was only a blip.

"You can tell just from our performances, not on the weekend but leading up to that, we are getting so much better," Dahlhaus said on Thursday morning.

"I'm very confident that in the next few weeks we'll be very good."

The loss snapped a strong run of form for Brendan McCartney's young team, whose previous six matches had brought four wins and competitive losses to 2011 Grand Finalists Collingwood and Geelong.

Dahlhaus said the Bulldogs would take the lessons from the defeat into their next clash, against Port Adelaide at Etihad Stadium on Sunday week.

"We're definitely going to learn from it," he said.

"We've got to have the review and look over it, and we'll definitely learn a lot of things.

"It's going to make us better players and a better team."

The Bulldogs have a bye this round, and will be given Saturday and Sunday off.

Dahlhaus said he would return home to Geelong to spend time with family and friends.

"It's good to get a bit of a break, but I'm not one who likes to miss out on a weekend of footy; I'd like to keep playing," he said.

"But it will be good to see the family and go to a few cousins' birthdays, and catch up on how their lives are going."

Dahlhaus also revealed he is considering cutting off his trademark dreadlocks.

"I wouldn't mind a haircut, but I don't know when," he said.

"A few of the boys want me to keep them, just for now. Hopefully they'll come off sometime soon."
