Throughout March and April the Western Bulldogs have worked with the Sunshine Kangaroos Junior Football Club to develop and deliver a 3 week “Come and Try” program for the local community to come down and learn to play Australian Football and have fun. The Sunshine Kangaroos run a junior and senior football club based in Sunshine, training takes place at Kinder Smith Reserve.

The Western Bulldogs, through the AFL Multicultural Program are working closely with the local club to help them promote Australian Football to the local community and get more kids playing the game throughout the West of Melbourne. Sunshine F.C is aiming to follow in the Western Bulldogs footsteps and to build their reputation as another Community Club.

“Most of the kids that participated in the program had not played football before, so to introduce the game to them with a program like this was great, not only for us at the Bulldogs but also for the Sunshine Footy Club” said Nish Moses, Western Bulldogs AFL Multicultural Development Officer.

The program was a huge success, with one of the participants joining up to Sunshine Kangaroos after the program, and two kids joining up to Sunshine’s Auskick Centre.
Our objectives at the Western Bulldogs are to work with a range of local clubs and associations in the Western region to help them become more inclusive clubs, much like the Sunshine Football Club.

If you are interested in playing Australian Football for the Sunshine Kangaroos or their local Auskick Centre or if you’re a local club that would like to get involved with our Multicultural Program please contact the AFL Multicultural Development Officer at the Western Bulldogs, Nish Moses: nish.moses@westernbulldogs.com.au
