Fan favourite Robert Murphy capped off another stellar year to finish sixth in the Charles Sutton Medal count - the highest ranking of any defender. His class and composure in the backline was first rate, placing eleventh in the league for rebound 50s. Murphy became a key inspiration and leader to a number of the Bulldogs’ young defensive crop both on and off the field.

By the Numbers:
Murphy staked his claim as one of the most accurate Bulldogs coming equal first with 84% disposal efficiency for the year. Just one percent off his career best disposal efficiency, the veteran was 90% effective or better on four occasions. First at the Club in rebound 50’s, Murphy was also eighth in disposals, second in total kicks and sixth in total one percenters. The 30-year- old also placed sixth in the competition for total bounces.

Season Highlight:
Round 12 against Port Adelaide really illustrated Murphy’s capabilities off half back and his reliability when in possession — gathering 32 disposals at an incredibly impressive 94% efficiency - the equivalent of 30 effective touches. Murphy also boasted six marks, six rebound 50s, four tackles and a goal assist to poll three Brownlow Medal votes.

Pre-Season Focus:
Murphy’s endurance is elite and that will continue to be a focus into the 2013 pre-season campaign. Continuing to support and nurture the developing backmen, who he has taken under his wing will also be a priority of his.
