THE SYDNEY Swans have emphatically snapped an indifferent run of form and improved their top-four prospects with a brilliant 92-point victory over the Western Bulldogs at the SCG on Sunday.

Making a mockery of the horrendous conditions in Sydney, the Swans led by 47 points at quarter-time and never let up as they ended a streak of three defeats in their past four games, winning 20.12 (132) to 5.10 (40).

In his 289th match, Jude Bolton relished the waterlogged SCG, finishing with a career-high 41 possessions and two goals, while Rhyce Shaw and Ted Richards marshalled the defence superbly.

Lewis Jetta kicked four goals and Trent Dennis-Lane added three among a sea of dominant Swans as they moved to 7-3 for the year.

The only sour note for the home side was an apparent shoulder or collarbone injury to Luke Parker, who was substituted immediately after a heavy clash with Matthew Boyd in the third term.

But it was a dreadful day for the Dogs, who took a significant step backwards after an encouraging last month of football.

Brendan McCartney's side failed to register a score from the fifth minute of the second term until 23 minutes into the third in a terribly disappointing day.

Liam Picken kicked two second-term goals and Boyd gathered 28 disposals, but every Dog had his colours lowered as they slipped to 4-6 ahead of next week's bye.

A game already tipped to be tight and tough was surely set for an absolute slog-fest as the rain pelted down in Sydney over the previous 36 hours.

"I suspect that this is going to go down to the wire," Mick Malthouse said on radio prior to the opening bounce. "And I'm going with Footscray."

So how did the Swans respond? By producing the second most accurate quarter of football in their 115-year history.

Nine goals straight at quarter-time was bettered only by the 10.0 the Swans kicked in a term against North Melbourne in 1984, leaving the Dogs stunned.

The Swans kicked them from all angles and from a combination of set shots, snaps and even two soccered efforts off the ground in a stupefying quarter of wet-weather football.

Then, as the rain cleared, the game reverted to pre-match predictions, with the home side kicking 1.5 in the second quarter to the Bulldogs' two goals, with the lead 46 points at half-time.

It was then 10 goals goals to two in the second half in a percentage-boosting win for the Swans ahead of a big showdown with Essendon next week.
