Williamstown have suffered a comprehensive 80 point defeat in the grand final rematch against Port Melbourne on Saturday at TEAC Oval.

In wet and muddy conditions, Saturday's afternoon game in Port Melbourne had the billing of a true grand final replay, but in the end failed to live up to the hype, as the Seagulls fell 3.7.25 to Port Melbourne 15.15.105.

The Williamstown outfit could not match Port Melbourne’s bigger bodies winning the contested ball in wet conditions eventually resulted in their third loss for Season 2012.

From the first bounce, the Seagulls were simply second to the ball, failing to register a score in the first term - heading into the first break 34 points down.

Port Melbourne continued to provide early scoreboard pressure in the second quarter grabbing the first goal and continuing to win the contested ball and be more effective with the footy around the ground.

A goal from Tory Dickson cut the margin back to 33 points early in the quarter and kept Williamstown in the game briefly but Port Melbourne continued their ascendancy slotting through the final two goals for the half as a result of Seagulls’ turnovers.

Going into the third term trailing by 46-points, the 'Gulls needed to rally early in the quarter to remain in the game, but it simply wasn't to be.

Port Melbourne kicked the first four goals of the quarter to effectively put the game beyond reach.

Two goals consecutive goals from Williamstown's only goal kicker Dickson in the latter stages of the quarter proved to be mere consolation as the home side would add a further three goals to their lead before the final siren, coming out 80-point winners and extending their unbeaten streak to 28-matches.

In a game with few positives for the blue and gold, Tory Dickson impressed kicking Williamstown's only three majors of the game, while James Wall characteristically competed hard and Tom Campbell continued to impress in the ruck.

Williamstown will be looking to bounce back next week when they tackle South Adelaide in Round 1 of the Foxtel Cup at the MCG on Saturday.
