After joining the Western Bulldogs as a rookie selection for last season, Billy Gowers offered plenty.
The 22-year-old not only made his AFL debut, but went on to play 20 games and finish as the team’s leading goal-kicker with 26 majors.
Gowers is confident he has more to give in 2019.
“I’ve worked a lot a lot on my endurance base throughout the pre-season, and repeat efforts – being able to compete longer and more consistently,” he told Macquarie Sports Radio.
“That’s something that hopefully I can bring throughout the season – more leading efforts, and getting involved a bit more. I think last year, I’d have a few moments a game, but I probably wouldn’t have enough.”

Gowers’ goal to be more consistent on the field is in-line with the team’s, after missing the finals in 2018.
He believes the emerging Bulldogs will be able to compete with the best in the business, and says both he and the squad are in a good place ahead of the season.
“I’m just enjoying my footy,” Gowers said.
“It sounds pretty cliched, but it’s good fun down here at the Doggies. We’ve got a young, energized group and we’ve had a really good pre-season. We’re looking forward to this week, and the 2019 season ahead.
“Every year, every club and every player is looking to get an edge – physically, mentally and away from the game as well.
“So I think it’s just about that constant improvement, and striving to find areas in your game which you can improve, and on a team level as well.”
