Williamstown played Collingwood at MC Labour Park in Round 11 of VFL action on Saturday. Williamstown made only the one change – Western Bulldog Malcolm Lynch making way for Tom Langlands who came in for his first senior game of the season.

First Quarter
Collingwood won the toss and kicked to the favoured end. Williamstown began brightly with Peter Street pushing forward to mark but missed his shot at goal, while Bulldogs team mate Brennan Stack limped off in the opening minutes with an injury and did not return for the rest of the game.

Collingwood was playing with plenty of intent with Sam Iles, Ryan Cook, Paul Licuria and John Anthony were leading the way. Up forward Brent Macaffer kicked three first quarter goals to establish an early lead. Williamstown’s Patrick Rose, Brett Johnson, Josh Hill and Ben Jolley were lively for the Seagulls.

Second Quarter
Collingwood started the quarter brightly and kicked a goal in the opening minutes to establish a four goal lead. The Seagulls responded with forwards Jason Cloke, Cameron Lockwood and Dean Galea finding space and providing strong targets.

Steven Greene was moved onto the dangerous Sam Iles and blanketed him out of the game. The Seagulls were now totally on top and if they were more accurate in front of goal would have established a greater half time lead.

This quarter became a real struggle with both sides’ defences well on top. Bulldogs trio Andrew McDougall, Jarrod Harbrow and Steven Tiller worked hard with Scott Meyer and Liam Picken down back although Collingwood missed a couple of set shots directly in front.

David Stretton, Ben Jolley and Brett Johnson had lifted to wrest control in the midfield but Collingwood continued to pepper away at goal but some near misses left the Seagulls up by two points at the last change.
