The Western Bulldogs are proud to announce our Captain for 2011 and beyond is Matthew Boyd.

‘Boydy’ is obviously held in the highest regard at the Club by not only his teammates and the coaching staff but also by the Board of Directors and entire Administration Staff.

Chief Executive, Simon Garlick said that “the Club was extremely fortunate to have such a high calibre group of Leaders to select from. Matthew clearly brings an incredible amount of determination, skill, professionalism and a fierce desire to succeed to the role.

“These traits, along with the fact that Matthew takes the game on and isn’t afraid to play in an attacking way epitomise the Western Bulldogs and the path of sustained success we are on. We have no doubt Matthew will be a phenomenal leader both on and off the field as we take the next step in Season 2011”.

Senior Coach Rodney Eade also echoed Garlick’s statement mentioning that “it was an incredibly tough decision to make, with numerous players having the right attributes to be leader.”

“In the end however we were in agreement that Matthew brings a strong work ethic, a proven playing record and the right skills and personality to lead the team” said Eade.
