THE WESTERN Bulldogs have categorically ruled out recruiting Brendan Fevola despite former club legend Doug Hawkins calling for the club to consider taking the risk.

A newspaper report on Thursday morning quoted Hawkins saying the club owed it to its members to at least entertain the possibility of bringing the Coleman medalist to the Whitten Oval.

But Bulldogs assistant coach Paul Williams ruled out the possibility.

"No, that's not something the club is interested in, end of story," Williams said.

"Very baffling. It's something we're not interested in. We're very much focused on our list at the minute and we're not really concerned. I hope Fev gets better, health-wise, but he's not in our plans."

The Bulldogs. Meanwhile, could welcome back some big names for this week's clash with West Coast.

Barry Hall, Shaun Higgins, Brian Lake and Tom Williams are all in contention to return to the team that defeated Richmond on Sunday.

Williams said Higgins (groin) and Williams (ankle) were likely to return to the team while Hall was showing signs that he had recovered from his ankle injury that has kept him out of the team since the round five loss to Fremantle.

"We'll see how [Hall] pulls up [from training] but he's ticked every box at the minute. He's very much in consideration for this week," he said.

Lake could return to the Bulldogs after he was sent to VFL team Williamstown two weeks ago to recapture form.

The Bulldogs withdrew Lake from the Seagulls side for last week's match against Port Melbourne after concerns about the state of TEAC Oval.

But Williams said Lake would be considered to return to the Bulldogs this week, but only if they were confident he was ready.

"We don't want him to go back to Williamstown. We want that when he does come back in, he plays consistently for us and plays at the level we know he can," Williams said.

"We will monitor that one really closely. We need to make sure he can play at the level and make sure he can do that. Once we're fully confident he can do that, he'll come straight back in."
