Bulldogs welcome AFL funding announcement
Western Bulldogs President, David Smorgon has welcomed last week’s AFL’s announcement that the Club will receive $10.2 million as part of the league’s Club Futu
Smorgon said that the funding reflected the AFL’s confidence in the Club’s direction and strategic plans for the future.
“We have worked hard at our Club to put in place an ambitious strategy that has the support of our Members and the respect of the AFL,” Smorgon said.
“The new funding is a significant vote of confidence in our strategy and our comprehensive plans to Win the West and grow the Western Bulldogs Brand as well as the overall game in the fastest growing region in the Australia”.
Western Bulldogs Chief Executive, Simon Garlick said that while the Western Bulldogs have been consistently competitive on and off the field in recent years - the new funding would enable the Club to build a stronger and more sustainable future.
“The AFL has recognised the structural inequities that exist within the competition and the need to ensure there is adequate compensation in place to ensure that those Clubs most affected are not continually disadvantaged. We look forward to ensuring we do everything possible to capitalise on what is becoming a more even playing field”
“This funding, which will provide a boost to both the Club’s football and non-football capabilities, will build on the Club’s many recent achievements including the completion of our $31 million re-development of Whitten Oval and the early success of our Bulldoze the Debt initiative,” Simon Garlick.
“Our strategy is based around delivering sustained success off the back of a consistently competitive Football team. It is a very exciting time for the Football Club and I urge Members and Fans to get behind us as we head into a new era in 2012 and beyond”.
