Bulldogs captain Matthew Boyd has capped an outstanding 2011 season, sharing fourth place in the Brownlow Medal vote count last night at Crown Palladium.

Boyd accumulated 24 votes from his 22 home and away games, finishing behind Dane Swan (34 votes), Sam Mitchell (30) and Nick Dal Santo (28).

Tied with Boyd on 24 votes was Collingwood midfielder Scott Pendelbury.

Judged best on ground in six matches in 2011, Boyd’s strong polling confirms his credentials as one of the league’s elite midfielders and reinforces his selection in the AFL All Australian Team earlier this month.

12 Bulldogs players polled votes in last night’s count, including debutantes Luke Dahlhaus and Jason Tutt.

Boyd received the most votes of the Bulldogs players, ahead of Ryan Griffen (7), Callan Ward (6), Daniel Cross (6), Robert Murphy (4), Daniel Giansiracusa (3), Will Minson (2), Adam Cooney (2), Jason Tutt (1), Shaun Higgins (1), Linday Gilbee (1) and Luke Dahlhaus (1).

After ranking amongst the league’s best, Boyd will now be amongst the favourites to claim the Bulldogs’ best and fairest title, the Charles Sutton Medal in 2011.

The Charles Sutton Medal will be held at the Peninsula Room (Central Pier, Docklands) on Friday 7 October 2011, commencing at 7:00pm.
