Coburg                  8.12 (60)

It’s time to catch up with Williamstown Coach Peter German after another good win for the Seagulls on the weekend against Coburg.  Peter how did you see the performance on the weekend?

To be honest I think we had an average start, the players knew that Coburg had built themselves up for this game but the good thing was that we responded in the second quarter.  Half way through the third term we dropped our work rate a bit which allowed them to kick 4 goals in the last ten minutes but we were able to address that at ¾ time and we finished off strongly.

Good to hear and it was pleasing to see Dylan Addison put in a strong performance.

We have been playing Dylan in the midfield and he played the majority of the game there again on the weekend.  He was excellent around the stoppages and covered a lot of ground as one of our key on ball players, it was definitely one of his best games for Williamstown.

Liam Jones’ name was thrown up for AFL selection last week, how did you see his game?

Yeah Liam was good again, despite not having the ‘stand out’ game that he did the week before.  The best part about ‘Jonesy’ is that he has been strong and solid over the past few weeks and we have been very pleased with his defensive efforts.

And there were some positive signs for Stephen Tiller also.

Tiller is really starting to show some of his better form in defence and he seemed to get back a bit of pace on the weekend, he is running on top of the ground a lot better.

What about Matthew Panos?

We saw some things from Matthew that we have not seen a lot of this year at Senior level.  He took 3-4 really good contested marks and his disposal more times than not results in something positive happening for the team.

How did you see the performance from James Mulligan and Lukas Markovic?

Mulligan had to shoulder the majority of the ruck work and did a pretty good job, we were pleased with his work at stoppages and around the ground.

Lukas had his first game back for 7-8 weeks and filled in for Andrejs Everitt in the ruck and also down back, his return was quite positive.

And what about 2009 Draftees Christian Howard and Jason Tutt?

They were both serviceable but have areas of their games that require development.  In defence it is pretty cut throat and there is a lot of pressure so we think every time they play Seniors it will really aid their development.

They need to learn the art of restricting their opponents while becoming strong attacking players out of defence.

There are definitely some good parts to their games but we are helping them identify areas of their games that need development.

What about Matt Little?

Yeah Matt kicked 4 goals and 4 behinds on the weekend so he probably could have finished for 7 or 8 goals had he kicked straight.

He was good but Grossman is the one who is stepping up and keeps getting better every week.

And no suprise to see Johnson have another great game.

No he is just an outstanding leader, Johnson and Jolley are really the barometers for our side.

Well you face the Northern Bullants this week, what are your thoughts heading into that game?

The Bullants are travelling really well and they have some quality players.  It is going to be a really good challenge for us this week away from home and we are going to be at our very best this weekend.  But we look forward to the challenge.

Now finally you are on top of the VFL ladder mate, you must be very happy with how the Season is going?

Yes but I am always wary of what can happen with injuries etc.  So rather than focus too much on where we are at the moment, I am just pleased that players like Wood and Everitt have been able to fill the void and play some decent AFL footy this year.

Thanks once again Peter for your time and good luck against the Bullants on the weekend.  Go the Seagulls and go the Dogs!
