Once again it’s time to sit down and get the inside word on our boys in the VFL.  This week we are joined by Williamstown Coach Peter German following an impressive display from the Seagulls against Sandringham, Peter thanks for joining us it was a solid win on Sunday.

Yes thanks it was a solid performance especially after coming off the break and having to contend with 7 changes to the side that defeated Casey.  There was a concern that it could have been a danger game but from my point of view the players started well and performed consistently throughout the game.

So who were the standouts yesterday?

To be honest it was a really strong team effort, we had winners across the whole field.  I thought Stephen Tiller and Tim Callan were really good in the backline, while Andrew Hooper is really starting to find his feet as that crumbing forward.  In the forward line Eagleton and Stack were both very good with their work rate and what they were able to produce on the day.  Liam Jones also looked dangerous in the goal square so there were definitely positives across the board.

And what about Jason Akermanis mate, there was obviously a lot of interest in his first outing in the VFL?

Yes Jason did create a bit of interest in the lead up to the game.  He had an opponent that played him pretty close for the whole game and we did ask him to sacrifice his game for the good of the team, which he did.  It’s important to remember as well that he has had 3-4 weeks off so it was always going to be tough coming back in after the break.  Hopefully the game was a bit of an eye opener for Aker in terms of what he can expect at this level and I am sure he will be better for the run.

It must have been tough also dealing with the loss of Reid and Ward to the AFL?

Yes it was a concern with two of our ‘inside’ midfielders getting the call up and being replaced by more ‘outside’ players.  Dylan Addison went into the middle though and we got Brodie Moles back so it was good for them to get the opportunity.  Jolley, Sautner and Johnson were outstanding also.

Fantastic, so tell me about Matt Little is he a chance to get the call up to an AFL side?

Well it depends what particular clubs need, there is no doubt he is a goal kicker who is smart and leads into the right areas.  There is a lot to like about him and he has been outstanding for Williamstown this year.

It looks like there may be more changes ahead after a tough game for the Bulldogs on Friday night, who do you see pushing for AFL selection this week?

Obviously if Will Minson misses through injury Jordan Roughead is a big chance.

Jordan has been very consistent over the last 2-3 weeks so he deserves his opportunity should he get it.  Eagleton may also be a chance after picking up 30 disposals and working really hard.  Tim Callan would be another one, while Andrew Hooper is starting to show what he can do at ground level.  So the options are there but it is important for the players to keep working as a team, that is the best way to open up options for everyone.

And just finally you must be happy with how Williamstown are travelling, on top of the ladder and looking strong heading into the final rounds.  How are you feeling as you prepare to make the trip to Geelong?

Yes we are playing the curtain raiser at Skilled Stadium this weekend and the boys will be probably playing in front of 30,000 spectators in the last quarter.  Geelong are a good side who like to take the game on so we will need to be at our best again.

Thanks Peter once again for taking time out to give the fans some insight into our boys in the VFL.  I look forward to catching up with you again next week, hopefully after another win!
