Mature Aged recruit Mark Austin was quietly confident going into the rookie draft that his AFL aspirations were not over.

The tall defender was completing an exercise drill at Whitten Oval; training with the team over the preseason, when he was given the nod that he was now a Bulldog.

He spent six years on Carlton’s senior list and played 15 games before being selected with the Bulldogs last pick in this year’s rookie draft.
