As part of the CGEA (Certificates in General Education for Adults) course offered through SpiritWest Services, 11 students and four staff members will join representatives from Footscray Police and the Victoria Police Academy at the three day camp beginning on Wednesday.
Run by Victoria Police, the High Challenge Program is designed to provide participants with a series of physical and mental exercises that promote teamwork and initiative. With activities including high and low rope courses, trust and team bonding drills, the camp will offer a positive experience for everyone attending.
Western Bulldogs Educational Services Manager, Chris Christoforou, says the camp will put everyone on a level playing field.
“The High Challenge Camp is designed to break down the perceived barriers that often occur between people such as those involved in our FRESH Program and Victoria Police,” he said.
“While there they will sleep in the same cabins, share duties and take part in all of the activities together. It will give them a better understanding of the role police play in society and hopefully build new relationships.”
“This will be the first time most of the students have done anything like this so they are very nervous. It will be a lot of fun and something that hopefully can be planned again.”
Students have already visited the Police Academy facility in Glen Waverley and met organisers from the High Challenge Program in preparation for the camp.
